A Polycule of Mars returns with Commander Brinks being introduced to our favorite Martians and immediately being unintentionally forward.
The cultural differences between the Earthlings and Martians are in some ways strikingly obvious, and in other ways shockingly unexpected. Where Earthlings are (generally) sexually repressed, the Martians are not. But that doesn't mean they don't have their own hang ups and repressive cultural norms.
In many ways, this element of the story is inspired by C. J. Cherryh's Foreigner series, where the Atevi are so very similar to the stranded human colonists that it is easy to forget that they are not human and do not actually have human motivations or culture. It's a really excellent series of books (though I have not read ALL of them), and I hope I achieve some of that familiar-but-shockingly-alien element with my Martians.
