We've had our introduction to the characters. Now things start to develop...
Writing
The past three weeks were all about writing the aforementioned new batch of episodes (#5 - 7). These incorporate all those poll results from last month. In fact, I had to delay writing the Alice - Kenzie first meeting because the poll was hanging on a knife edge!
I dropped a few early hints in these first four episodes as to each character's arc, but it felt great to really start bringing those into the light. The characters interact in more significant ways as well as they too get to know each other a bit more, and as prior actions have consequences...
The cast have already started recording the new dialogue, and it's amazing to hear the additional depth the actors can provide as they learn more about their characters. I love our cast so much.
But before we get to those, there is the very important matter of...
Episode 4
I personally hate spoilers so I won't give too much away, but I suspect Episode 4 is the one a lot of you have been waiting for, in more ways than one.
I've been dying to get started on this one. Yesterday was SFX and Foley recording. You know, pouring a cup of tea, wiping cum off her thigh, typical sound designer stuff...
Today I drop them in and start building the soundscape. The background is more intimate than the last couple raucous episodes, but the atmosphere is intense.
The episode previews should be ready to go either Monday or Tuesday.
Art
Alice's character reveal is out. I doubt you missed it.
Morgan's should be ready and posted this month.
In addition, I commissioned pieces for both Kenzie and Aubrey. So that's all four of the (current) gang soon to be revealed!
(decent poses -- but wtf is that lead up)
I think it's a bit more fun if the characters are in a setting (e.g. Alice in her dorm), not merely set against a white background, but that does mean more work for the artist which I suspect is why these are taking a bit longer than expected. It also costs more, but I think it's entirely worth it.
Sound Design
Just a bit of fun for those interested in this kind of thing: here's a breakdown of the sound design for the collision with Morgan at the end of the squash match (Episode 2 @ 3:18).
I didn't feel like repeatedly throwing myself onto the floor, so I purchased some "body fall" SFX. You layer them so it sounds like the various limbs are hitting too. Worked out well, and no bruises!
