Hey everyone! TruckSim GPS v1.1.0 is now ready to download in Google Play and Apple AppStore.
This is our first major update since the public launch last month. Lots of new users joining in from all over the world, WELCOME! Hope you feel right at home around here π
Please share your feedback on how the app is working for you. Drop a comment here on the post, or come chat with us on Discord.
Most of the work since v1.0.0 has gone into improving our internal tooling for managing, adding and updating maps. We've made big progress towards automating the process, which is why we're shipping so many map updates in v1.1.0.

App size keeps increasing as we add more maps, expect a big reduction in the next major update
Map system scalability
The goal remains the same: support the most ambitious map combos by the end of the year, and keep them in sync with the mod versions you're running. Down the line we also want to simplify the mods configuration process by auto-detecting the map mods you have installed.
On the server side, we've made good progress: our cloud server now keeps only actively used map sectors in RAM and offloads the rest to disk. With this in place, the server is ready to scale to hundreds of maps without problems.
The bottleneck right now is the app itself. It currently ships with the geometry and icons of every supported map embedded inside it, so its size keeps growing as we add more maps. For the next major update (v1.2.0), we'll be moving all of that data out of the app and onto the server. The first time you select a map mod, the app will fetch just the data it needs.
This will drop the app size significantly and let us keep adding maps without bloating it again. As a bonus, we'll be able to push new maps and map updates directly from the server, no app update required :D
What's next?
The most requested feature right now is voice navigation. Before we can ship that though, we need to make turn directions more accurate. You've probably noticed they're not always perfect today, and getting that right is a hard prerequisite for voice nav to feel any good.
So the next major update will stay focused on the map system. We'll work on serving new maps and map updates without requiring an app update, fix some long-standing routing bugs (illegal turns mostly), and tighten up the turn directions. All of which sets us up to start working on voice navigation for the major update after that.
Expect several patch updates in the coming weeks as the supported map mods start rolling out their own 1.59 support. After v1.2.0, hopefully we'll be able to push all these map updates without requiring an app update at all.
As always, thanks for sticking around and helping shape TruckSim GPS!- Nico
