DESCRIPTION

Dad came with me to the main office. We had a scheduled meeting with the administration because we needed to sign several official forms regarding his parental consent to accelerate my education. The paperwork was just a formality we had to complete.

He was already quite used to this. He had literally just gone through the exact same confusing procedure for Sheldon a few weeks ago. Dad sat in the small chair across from the principal, signing his name on the dotted lines without even bothering to read the fine print anymore.

Taking active control of my daily life meant that I was finally going to be in charge of my own academic timetable. This meeting in the principal's office was a massive step along the way to securing my ultimate freedom from the agonizingly slow high school curriculum.

I absolutely refused to spend the next four years sitting in a cramped classroom listening to teachers slowly explain concepts I had already learned. By officially skipping grades, I was going to better utilize that time somewhere far more productive. Like running my own business.

"Sir, I really want a highly flexible daily schedule moving forward," I said, looking directly at the principal across his cluttered wooden desk.

"I will attend the advanced classes and pass the exams, but attendance should not be strictly compulsory for me every single day. Right?"

I firmly plan to do much more productive things with my time. I genuinely do not want to waste my valuable time sitting in a compulsory elective class like freshman music, throwing away an hour of my life just trying to play a flute.

Furthermore, there was also that mandatory driver education coursework that I eventually had to take to secure my official driving license. Having a flexible academic schedule would easily allow me to carve out the necessary time to complete those practical requirements without completely overwhelming my daily routine.

"That flexibility entirely depends on your upcoming test results, Charlie," Principal Peterson replied, leaning back in his leather chair. "Several exams will be conducted for you over the next few days. You had better prepare yourself thoroughly for them."

"Yeah, I am completely ready for the tests. Just do not forget my specific condition regarding the attendance policy," I reminded him confidently. I already knew for a fact that certified genius kids are incredibly good for the overall reputation of a public high school, which usually translates into securing significantly more state funding. I definitely had enough leverage to ask for special treatment.

Principal Peterson sighed and simply told me to head to my morning classes, adding that he would see what he could do, which effectively meant yes. He then explicitly stated that he wanted to talk with my dad in private for a few minutes.

He must be planning to ask him questions about my overall maturity level and how I behaved at home. Also, since Sheldon is currently going through the exact same acceleration procedure, this private chat might actually be about him and his issues.

I casually made my way down the hallway toward my designated homeroom class. As I walked through the doorway, I took a moment to look at everyone already sitting inside. Because of the lengthy office meeting, it had taken me around twenty minutes to finally reach the classroom.

I was a bit late compared to the regular bell schedule, but thankfully, Mrs. MacElroy was still nowhere to be seen. Because the strict teacher was entirely absent, the restless freshman students were naturally acting quite rowdy, throwing crumpled paper and shouting across the room.

I stood near the door and carefully looked at absolutely everyone in the class, actively searching for a suitable candidate for my specific homecoming quest. I have always thought that the vast majority of regular people are incredibly boring.

They are boring in the sense that people are usually very easy to figure out. Once you get to know them, you can easily see their patterns. Most people are boring, but once you find comfort even with someone boring, that connection is what actually lasts.

Because of this, I usually do not make any real effort to get to know the other kids. I walked quietly to the back of the room and sat at my usual assigned seat. I always claim the desk in the farthest row from the door, sitting in the very last seat of the row to avoid unnecessary attention.

As I settled into my wooden chair, I noticed the girl sitting directly beside me. I regularly see her sitting near my usual seat in almost every single one of my morning classes.

Usually, I ignore her presence and do not even bother to greet her. But today was a completely different story. Your boy was officially on a mission to secure a date.

"Good morning…..Helen," I said smoothly. I literally had to jog my newly enhanced memory just to remember her actual first name. Thankfully, it only took me a mere millisecond of searching through my photographic memory files to accurately recall her name from roll call. That was a really close call.

"Good morning, Charlie," Helen replied, her eyes widening in genuine surprise. "I am honestly really surprised you actually know my name. You are always so deeply stuck inside your thick textbooks that I figured you did not even know anyone else was in this room." She offered a warm, slightly excited smile, clearly caught off guard by my sudden attention.

Helen was undeniably attractive and definitely fit my specific type perfectly. She had flowing, shoulder length blonde hair that looked effortless, framing a soft, heart shaped face. She wore a pair of stylish, thin wire rimmed glasses that gave her a very cute, intelligent look without hiding her bright green eyes. Basically a nerdy blonde who's hot.

Even seated behind a bulky school desk, it was incredibly obvious that she possessed some very nice, well proportioned curves. She was easily a solid eight out of ten in the high school hierarchy. While she was obviously inferior to the goddess Selena, she was still doing exceptionally well in the curves department for a freshman.

"Well, it is completely impossible not to notice the cutest girl in the classroom, even when I am buried in my books," I replied smoothly, leaning casually against the side of my desk.

A bright blush immediately crept up Helen's cheeks, and she tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. "You are just saying that. There are other cute girls in class," she teased softly, clearly enjoying the sudden attention.

"Yes, but you are the cutest," I countered with a playful smirk, holding her gaze steadily. I think I got some charm from Will Hunting as well, or it was just the confidence you get when you know you are the smartest person in the room. Either way, I was not shy about delivering that line at all. It was still 1989. No internet means girls don't know whats cringe.

I knew that girls dug it. Those lines only come across as creepy if they come from an ugly boy, but I was pretty confident with my looks.

She blushed intensely, and I thought about how high school girls could be so easy and naive. To strike while the iron was hot, I finally asked her.

"Actually, I was wondering if you had any plans for the upcoming homecoming dance next week. Because if you are free, I would really love to take you."

Helen's green eyes widened behind her glasses, and her smile grew even brighter. "Are you seriously asking me to homecoming right now?" she asked, a hint of genuine excitement in her voice. "Because yes, I would absolutely love to go with you."

"Perfect," I said, feeling a massive wave of relief wash over me.

"But there is a small catch," Helen added quickly, tapping her pencil playfully against my desk. "Since you are apparently a total bookworm who gets perfect scores in math, you have to help me with it. That is my price for being your date." She was a good student in class, and I knew she did not really need much help, but she most likely asked me so that we could spend more time together.

I let out a soft laugh, genuinely amused by her clever negotiation skills. "Deal. I will ensure you get a solid A in math," I accepted happily.

Right at that exact moment, Mrs. MacElroy finally marched into the noisy classroom, her heels clicking loudly against the linoleum floor. The chaotic room instantly went completely silent as everyone scrambled to open their textbooks and face the front.

Helen and I both turned our attention straight toward the chalkboard, but we were both still smiling widely to ourselves.

I was incredibly happy and deeply relieved since the very first girl I had bravely asked out had immediately accepted my invitation. Take that, Georgie, I thought to myself victoriously.

During the lunch period, Helen sought me out in the crowded cafeteria. She shyly asked if I would accompany her, a request I was more than happy to accept. We grabbed our trays and found an empty spot, sitting together at the same table to eat our food in peace.

The conversation flowed much easier than I had initially expected. She was constantly giggling at almost everything I said, even my dry attempts at humor. It was genuinely fun to see her acting like that, making the chaotic cafeteria environment feel a bit comforting.

That pleasant atmosphere was suddenly shattered when something entirely unexpected happened. I noticed a lanky, agitated boy marching aggressively in our direction.

He stopped right at our table and loudly yelled at Helen, demanding to know exactly what she was doing sitting there with me.

I watched Helen immediately panic, her bright demeanor vanishing as she went completely silent. Finding her voice, she nervously told the boy, whose name was apparently Leo, to go away and stop bothering us. Seeing her distress, I immediately pushed my chair back and stood up to face him directly.

I looked down at him and firmly stated that he heard what she said, telling him to back off. Leo looked at my posture and nervously stepped back a fraction.

He was same year as me, but noticeably shorter. I could easily tell from his slight frame that he was not a physical threat.

He started rambling, and after hearing him vent his frustrating problem, the awkward truth finally came out. I quickly learned that Helen had originally agreed to go to the homecoming dance with him.

However, she had apparently changed her mind and canceled their date earlier this very same morning.

Considering the timeline of events, it was glaringly obvious that she had canceled on him immediately after saying yes to my own invitation in homeroom.

Looking at the situation logically, I could actually understand his sudden frustration. It is never a good feeling to get brushed aside for someone else.

Despite sympathizing with him a little bit, I still had to defuse the situation. I calmly told Leo that he was creating an unnecessary scene in the middle of the cafeteria.

I advised him to just accept her decision and move on with his day, since she simply chose it.

Realizing he was outmatched and drawing unwanted attention from the teachers, Leo eventually turned around and walked away. However, I could clearly see the lingering anger and resentment plastered across his face. I simply watched him leave, silently hoping that this minor teenage drama would not come back to bite me in the ass later.

Once he was gone, the stress overwhelmed Helen and she started crying softly at the table. I sat back down and awkwardly tried my absolute best to console her. She quietly apologized for dragging me into her mess, but I smoothly told her not to worry about it at all. Even if I had mixed feelings about this whole situation.

Luckily, the loud school bell rang right then, signaling that the lunch break was officially over. I gathered my things and eventually parted ways with Helen in the hallway. It was incredibly exhausting to deal with high school relationship drama, especially a crying girl. Today had certainly been an eventful day.
