Enid is so tired at this point, not only does she have to deal with the fact that Wednesday was in a coma and she couldn’t do anything about it, but NOW she has to deal with Wednesday herself, fully awake, like she didn’t almost just die, still covered in wounds and trying to get herself into danger again.
Not to mention, she’s currently getting on Enid’s nerves, pacing back and forth around their dorm room. Which, by the way, she shouldn’t even be in right now.
‘Why isn’t she home with her family?’ Enid thought to herself, instead having to listen to Wednesday recount her detailed plans to find and capture Tyler, on her own. Without her. Again.
“Wednesday, would you stop? You aren’t seriously considering going after Tyler like this?” she asked, Wednesday stopped her pacing and turned to look at Enid, who gestured her face, then her whole body for emphasis. Wednesday glared at herself up and down, like she never even bothered to look at herself before.
“These are just simple cuts, Enid. Nothing that should slow me down,” Wednesday retorted with a huff.
‘Bullshit,’ Enid thought to herself, using the little patience she had left to not be mean to Wednesday. The girl was fresh out of a coma after all. ‘But in all seriousness, how could she claim they were only SIMPLE CUTS?! She was thrown out of a freaking window!’ Enid doesn’t even want to remember when she picked her up and was able to see what Wednesday's SKULL looked like… She can’t think about it without nausea flaring up and bile rising in the back of her throat. Not to mention Wednesday is slowed down now.
Truth is, Enid's wolf senses are sharper now, she can tell when someone is ill. The acrid smell of sickness and the radiating sense of depleted energy. A discomfort in the way she moved. Fatigue. Like a stiff wind could blow her over. But Wednesday is too stubborn to be weak. Instead she decides to not only be weak, but an absolute moron with no notion of self-preservation.
“Tyler is still out there. He has plans to kill both of us. I’m going to fix it,” Wednesday says, her voice perfectly still and emotionless.
‘Okay, she is too deep in her own detective delusions,’ Enid sighed internally, deciding it’s about time someone slapped some sense into her, as her plans of doing things by herself haven’t worked for her at all.
“Fix it? You are the reason he escaped,” Enid stated., iIt was a harsh thing to say, but necessary to humble the raven. Waiting for a reaction, Enid saw Wednesday direct her attention towards her back.
“Stay out of this,” Wednesday grumbled in what could almost be called a growl.
‘Okay now she has gone full delulu.’ Enid stared at her in disbelief for a second, contemplating whether or not she should ask.
“Who are you talking to?”
“No one,” Wednesday replied with a sigh.
‘Oh that messed up cut in her head might’ve actually done more damage than she’d anticipated,’ Enid mused, her concerns for her roommate growing.
Enid can’t take this shit anymore.
‘For Moon’s sake she just woke up from a fucking coma, and it’s clearly messing with her head,’ Enid huffed to herself mentally. ‘She should be back home, but she insisted on staying in the dorm with me. Did she do this because she wanted to stay close to me? Or is it all just so she could carry out her plans?’ Enid is not sure what she should think anymore.
Nevermind all that, she has to stop her delusional and perhaps schizo injured friend from getting hurt again. She is officially on Wednesday look out duty, which meant no time for her own internal drama. Enid carefully grabbed the raven by the shoulders, and took a deep breath.
“Wednesday Addams, you are staying here, in your bed, and you are going to rest. All. Night. Understood?” Wednesday frowned, not breaking eye contact.
“No, Enid you don’t understand-”
“Exactly!” Enid cried out as she clasped her hands together while she smiled like a maniac. “I don’t understand, AND, I do not care right now,” Enid continued as she put her hands back on Wednesday's shoulders, turning her around, and starting to push her towards her bed.
“Enid, stop,” Wednesday protested, now resisting and trying to stop Enid from pushing her towards the bed with her heels, with no success.
“You should try harder to stop me then!” Enid retorted. Wednesday froze, now realising that she couldn’t stop Enid’s playful push, and the thought terrifies her, just how weak had she become?
“Enid, this is childish of you, the situation requires-”
“Nope nope nope, stop talking, go to bed,” Enid gave her a final gentle push and sat her down on her bed. “There, much better,” Enid smiled as she took a second to stare back at the conflicted Addams. She looked so small now, with her oversized sweatshirt, Enid had to actively resist the urge to hug her.
“But, Enid, I-” Wednesday started to protest.
“No buts!” Enid interrupted her. “You are staying here, and so will I,” Enid said as she sat next to Wednesday. “Someone’s gotta look out for you too.” Wednesday had that look she only had when she was conflicted. Enid was sure Wednesday hated allowing herself to rest and be weak, as well as being vulnerable.
‘Yeah, she hates that. Oh! And probably the fact that the Hyde on the loose wants them dead,’ Enid internally mused. But she could see something else. Wednesday seems… Guilty. Sad? It’s hard to tell. ‘Maybe I was too harsh with her earlier,’ Enid thinks to herself guiltily.
“Wednesday, quit overthinking. Now it’s relaxing time.” Enid laid down on her side on the raven’s bed, leaving just enough space for Wednesday to lay down next to her. The seer rolled her eyes as Enid patted the spot beside her. Wednesday carefully laid down, Enid catching the slight wince she let out when her head touched the stiff pillow.
‘Poor girl, of course it hurts,’ Enid thought to herself, though she would never say out loud or her roommate would undoubtedly send daggers flying her way.
They both stared at the ceiling in comfortable silence for a while, Enid listening as Wednesday's heart rate slowly settles. Her heart has a peculiar rhythm, very on brand for an Addams. Wednesday’s heart literally skips a beat, stopping for just a second before it keeps going, and Enid is always terrified it will stop beating completely. Wednesday had once told her it was named something weird like, Extrasis- Extrasystel? Extrasystoles? She can’t remember and- ‘OH, WHAT IS THAT?’ Enid’s thoughts were immediately derailed as she focused in horror at what was above them.
“Wednesday! Your ceiling is covered in spiderwebs?!” Enid shrieked, hugging Wednesday out of fear. Wednesday glared at her and then back at the ceiling.
“Of course, how else do you think I’m keeping the pests at bay?” she replied like it was completely obvious. Enid narrowed her eyes slightly offended.
“Are you calling me flea-bitten?” The raven let out a small sigh, almost as if she just laughed? Enid could see the hint of what could have been a smile in the corner of the seer’s mouth.
“Of course not. Need I remind you our window doesn’t have any mosquito nets? I built this spider army so you’d be free of potential pests, since werewolves blood tends to be tastier. I assumed I was doing you a favor,” Wednesday replied, as if it had been blatantly obvious. Enid glared at her uncomfortably.
“I am not sure if I should be offended, grossed out, or if I should thank you… And what was that about my blood?” The raven remained silent for a second, staring at the ceiling to avoid Enid’s eye contact, and the fact that she was still hugging her… Wednesday was not entirely opposed to her touch.
“Don’t worry, these spiders don’t bite wolves,” Wednesday replied softly, placing her hand on top of Enid’s arm. ‘Is this affection? From Wednesday? There is no way,’ Enid panicked internally.
“Sorry, Wednesday, am I holding too tight? Am I hurting you?” Enid could only assume that was the case, but she couldn’t be further from the truth. Wednesday's skin was begging for the warmth of her arms around her.
“No.” That's all she can say, but she can’t shake the thought of not knowing when it’s going to be the last time she gets to be held by Enid. Maybe if she holds onto her warmth for longer she can stop it from fading away, maybe she can stop him from taking Enid away. From killing her. A chill ran down Wednesday's spine at the thought, Enid notices and pulls her closer.
“It’s getting chilly, let me cover you in your blankie.”
‘Blankie?’ The raven finds herself repeating in her head the weird names her roommate tends to use for objects, a new habit of hers in an attempt to assimilate the information. Enid finished covering the both of them in Wednesday’s black fur blanket, wiggling herself to get comfortable and placing an arm back on top of the seer’s torso, the casual performance of the gesture sending an extra beat to her already peculiar heartbeat.
“Are you cozy?”
“The blanket is as tight as a custom-made funeral coffin.”
“So, good right?”
“Perfecto.” Wednesday heard the wolf giggle as she cuddled closer to her, burying her face into her neck. Wednesday could feel herself giving in to the comfort, her eyelids felt heavier and heavier, she was ready to let herself drift to sleep until-
“How adorable,” Weems glared at the scene from the colorful side of the room. Wednesday decided to ignore her, but she noticed Enid perked up.
“What is it?” Wednesday lazily asked, her voice a mere whisper.
“Nothing it’s just, I’ve got the strangest feeling that we are being watched. Like if there was someone standing right there,” Enid finished as she pointed to the other side of the room. “I swear to god if it’s Agnes I’m going to throw claws,” she growled. Wednesday and Weems shared a look.
“Do not worry. Enid. It's just an annoying old lady.” Enid’s head whipped back towards Wednesday with a slightly shocked and concerned expression across her face.
“You know what, I don’t even want to find out. I’m going to ignore what you just said.” She positioned herself back on her spot between the raven’s arms, deciding she didn’t need to know what's going on in Wednesday's concussed brain.
“Ouch, don’t worry, I’ll see myself out… I can tell when I’m not wanted,” Weemes waved as she faded away, and finally Wednesday could close her eyes. She let out a sigh she didn’t know she was holding. She could feel Enid’s weight shift as she drifted deeper into slumber, her grip becoming loose, her messy hair falling on her face… Wednesday found herself rearranging Enid’s hair strands, just to be able to see her face for a moment longer. She’d burn the image into her pupils if it meant holding onto this memory just a little longer. She’d burn it all and fight every battle if it meant she could keep her a moment longer.
But for now, she had to lose this battle against sleep, to see the light of the next day, another chance to make things right.
