To purge the residual lefover magic mud from the last war eating away at Rin's Magic Circuits, she must undergo a Sympathetic Resonance Ritual with the skilled stranger. Because raw magical energy transmission in the Fate universe requires intense physical pathways, and because the Stranger's specific elemental alignment is the only thing capable of neutralizing the curse, the ritual demands absolute physical and sexual intimacy between them. Shirou's own alignment is useless here, leaving him completely powerless to save her through his own means.
Faced with two years left, Rin chooses to endure the ritual because and secure a future with Shirou. Shirou, choosing her survival over his own ego consents to the arrangement and stays to bear witness. His presence acts as an emotional anchor for Rin, ensuring she doesn't lose her identity to the foreign prana.
凛の魔術回路を蝕んでいる残留する魔泥を浄化するためには、彼女は熟練した見知らぬ男と「共鳴の儀式」を行わなければならない。フェイトの世界観において、生の魔力の伝達には強烈な肉体的経路が必要であり、また、その見知らぬ男の特定の元素属性こそが呪いを中和できる唯一のものだからである。そのため、この儀式には、二人の間に絶対的な肉体的・性的親密さが求められる。シロウ自身の属性はここでは役に立たず、彼自身の力では彼女を救うことは全くできない。
残り2年という状況に直面し、凛はシロウとの未来を守るために、この儀式に耐えることを選ぶ。シロウは自身のエゴよりも彼女の生存を優先し、この取り決めに同意してその場に留まり、見守ることにした。彼の存在は凛にとって精神的な支えとなり、異質なプラーナによって彼女が自己を失うことのないよう支えている。
