Very old art, the first is from April 21, 2023 and the other four are from May 1st and 2nd. The first one is also my first ever drawing using Ibispaint, which as of June 12, 2026, is what I still use.
Here you can see most of the Oculus cast hasn’t changed too much designwise, but there’s a few fun facts I can scrounge up from these.
At the time, the cast only contained Oculus, Fibula, Abigail, Zoey Wimbley, Silas, Mabel, Bladder, Deatheray MacPhearson, Man-Man, and Boy-Boy.
As you can see, Zoey looks uh interesting to say the least. This was the first time I ever drew her as far as I know, so yeah it took me 3 years to finally land on a design I liked for her, far longer than any other character of mine.
Silas was meant to be a head in a jar full of water and hooked up to life support that got wheeled around on a cart by Mabel, which is initially the only reason I made her. He and Mabel were about equal importance since everything he did was through her, but now he has his own body. The body he has in the picture with mini-Oculus was how he looked in the past before his body died on him, but after drawing it I decided I liked it a lot and rewrote stuff so that he has his body still in the future.
My sister says he is hot so I mean I guess that was a good choice in her eyes 😭
Extra weird fact about this fourth character ever conceived for Dr. Oculus, Silas, in the first week or so of the brainstorming, was going to be known only as “Oculus’ dad” and he’d have a full body, but he’d also have his consciousness placed inside a fish in a bowl instead of a head. Also he was super friendly and embarrassed Oculus a lot with his typical dad behaviour. Now he’s a cold, calculating man who derives pleasure from torturing people in long, excruciating ways and steals corpses to create soldiers out of. I don’t know what led to that either
