Alex heard her parents get home and attempted to run to the door. Surely they could help her, as embarrassing as this all this was. Her attempt to leap from the bed resulted in her collapsing into an inelegant pile. As she tried to get up, with dawning horror she realized she couldn't stand upright. How much was she going to change! With her shame being just barely beaten out by her fear of further changes, she crawled her way through the doorway and into the living room. She expected a gasp, perhaps even a scream. She did not expect her parents to see the distress on her mutated face and respond with a nonchalant "what's wrong?"
