The world is watching a deadly outbreak of the Ebola virus spreading in Africa. In a matter of weeks, it has been elevated to a global health emergency and become one of the largest Ebola outbreaks on record. The timing couldn’t be worse. Cuts to USAID and other organizations that were providing experts, resources, supplies, and infrastructure to fight deadly disease outbreaks in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo have weakened local health workers' ability to respond.
