Have you ever wanted to "remember" an exact point (or points) within a media file so you don't have to scrub for it next time you open the file?
Let's say you're creating a report, doing research, or want to remember the exact point in the video where your friend eats shi dirt on his skateboard. The next release of Stacher will have the ability to add both "Quick" and "Custom" bookmarks to both video and audio files!
How does it work?
When you're watching a video within Stacher's media player, you can right click anywhere on the seek track for a media file to access the bookmarks menu. Within the menu, you'll see options to add a Quick bookmark, a Custom bookmark, and (if you already have bookmarks added) an option to Delete a bookmark.
Here's an example of adding a Quick Bookmark:
As you can see, this is pretty simple. A quick bookmark just adds a diamond on your seek track so that you can easily get back to that point in the media player without having to search for it. Another way you can add a quick bookmark is in real time, when you see or hear the thing you want to remember, just hit the backtick/tilda key in the upper left of your keyboard. This hotkey will add a quick bookmark at the exact time that's currently playing when pressed.
So, what is a Custom Bookmark?
A custom bookmark allows you to change the color of the marker as well as add a Title and/or Description that will appear when you hover over the bookmark. This may be helpful if you have a lot of bookmarks and you want to quickly differentiate between them.
Another cool thing here is that the text you enter for Title or Description is searchable! In the Stacher library, you will be able to search for a media file that has a certain bookmark just by typing:
bookmark:
So, for example, if I wanted to find the video from the example above where I created a bookmark for the Title screen, I could simply do the following search in my Stacher Library:
bookmark:title
neat.
How do you remove a bookmark?
Removing a bookmark is just as simple. Right click the bookmark you want to remove and select the option to Delete Bookmark.
