DESCRIPTION

Over the years I've become a true believer that short form horror is where it is at. From short stories to short films, there is a need to pack so much into a small package that they just hit harder, faster, and cut deeper. This isn't to say that they are better than long form, but there is something about the condensed and distilled nature of short form that resonates differently. Things are left more to the imagination, questions left unanswered, and they take big swings to leave an impact in a shorter time.

Here are a few horror short films that are worth taking the time to watch! This is not a comprehensive list but is a smattering of things that I think are worth popping on and spending 1-15 minutes with:

Great Choice (2017) ...enjoy your shrimp... "A woman gets stuck in a Red Lobster commercial."

Hikari Hayakawa's Evil Heart うば われ た 心臓 (1985) "A group of girls are telling stories one night and one of them relates the story of her heart transplant, after a scary one is requested."

Curve: "Clinging to a curved surface high above a sentient abyss, a girl has to cover the few feet back to safety before she loses grip."

The Black Tower (John Smith, 1987): "The Black Tower tells a singular story of architectural horror and madness worthy of the ungovernable geographies"

My house walk-through: "This is not horror video. This video was created simply by filming inside my house."

Silver Slime (Christophe Gans, 1981)

PLAYGROUND (Rodrigo Goulão de Sousa)

ZONE, Takashi Ito

Intruders: "In the aftermath of a deadly haunting in a small suburban home, a sinister omnipresent entity proceeds to cause havoc in the private lives of a young boy, an unsuspecting teen, and absent minded inspector."

The God Man: "The God Man is a 9.5 min short animated film that follows an interview of Jonah Weisman, the man who discovered the entity “The God Man” drifting through space."

This House Has People in It: "Event from account 00437: Subject 3 prone on kitchen floor."

Thunder (1982) | Takashi Ito

Ghost (1984) | Takashi Ito

Haunted Indiana (1980s Bloomington Public Access Program)

Candystealer (2019): "A young punk on Halloween learns a valuable lesson the hard way in this short tale of seasonal revenge."
