Hello everyone, I was away for a while. I’ve been struck with a second loss this year. Some days ago I lost my dog, her name was Hera and she was a German shepherd, but to me she was family. Clever, quiet and a small glutton. Unfortunately age caught up with her. A few hours after feeding her for dinner she drank too much water and due to old age the stomach detached and turned around. That resulted into swelling and pushing the other organs like the lungs and the heart. I took her to the vet right away at 2am and she had surgery from 2:30-4:30am. The vet told me to come back the next day at 2pm to get her. 20 minutes after taking her home she had a heart attack on my arms. I tried CPR but it was futile. The one thing that gets me through is the fact that she was almost 13 years old which is at the long end of the life expectancy of German shepherds (9-13 years). I knew she couldn’t handle the surgery but it was a double edged sword. We couldn’t leave the stomach be turned because she’d die so we did the surgery which had 50/50 chances on a strong and middle aged dog, which she wasn’t. My only hope it that for her last moments she wasn’t alone and I hope that she saw me smiling at her and telling her to rest and get well right before the heart attack.
I can’t type anything else right now…I’m sorry. This year was too much for me. Once my grandma now my dog ffs…
I’ll try to come back to work tomorrow, to keep my mind elsewhere, because if this continues like that I’ll go crazy.
