Chord Analyzer is here!
This one's a bit different from the usual mixing tools. It's a real-time MIDI chord detection and music theory plugin.
What it does:
Drop it on a MIDI track and it instantly tells you what chord you're playing, its Roman numeral in any key, and its harmonic function (tonic, dominant, subdominant, etc.). It recognizes 45 chord types: From basic triads and sevenths all the way to extended chords, altered dominants, and add chords. It also detects inversions and shows slash notation.
Chord Suggestions:
One of the features I'm most excited about is the suggestion engine. It offers three levels:
Basic: common progressions like I–IV–V–I and ii–V–I
Intermediate: Secondary dominants, borrowed chords, tritone subs
Advanced: Chromatic mediants, Neapolitan chords, augmented 6th approaches
Each suggestion comes with a reason why it works, so it's genuinely useful for learning and writing.
Session Recording:
You can record your chord progressions with timing data and export them as JSON. I thought this might be handy for transcription work or just keeping track of what you played.
Who is this for?
People like me that suck at piano but want to find the chord your playing on guitar! I loved having this feature in Logic Pro and wanted to bring it over to Linux.
Anyone learning harmony, composers exploring new progressions, or musicians doing transcription. The educational tooltips explain theory concepts as you go.
