Dear Journal:

Today was my first day of training at Dutch Bros., and I had to be there at 4 AM ☹.  I may be a morning person, but that’s the middle of the night!  Especially since I had to leave the house at 3:30 to walk there.  Part of me hoped I’d get murdered on the way.  It would have simultaneously put me out of my misery and made Dad feel guilty about not buying me a car.  Unfortunately, the most dangerous creature I encountered was an owl.

What made it worse was that my sister was getting home just as I was getting up.  She hasn’t talked to me since my “fat ass” comment at the family BBQ, and that’s fine with me.  The obvious double standard that still exists doesn’t exactly endear me to her.  She weaseled her way out of having to get a job by telling mom and dad she intended to train over the summer to get back to “scholarship athlete form.”  Since then, she’s lost her scholarship and has only been to the gym a handful of times, yet she still has no job (and no curfew, apparently).  I’m not sure how hanging out all night with friends fits her plan to get in shape.

Then again, round is a shape, I suppose.

After I got done yawning (Dutch Bros, cold brew FTW!), training went pretty well.  I shadowed a girl named Tracy as she car-hopped, taking orders.  She was super nice and taught me how to use their handy custom iPad device.  It’s pretty cinchy, though finding all the toppings and additives takes practice.  I had no idea how particular people were when it comes to coffee!  I made Tracy laugh when I asked her, after a particularly fussy customer, where the “pinch,” “dash,” and “skosh” buttons were.

Still, if I can keep my snarky side contained, I’ll make some serious bank!  Tracy made $50 in tips, of which she kindly gave me $10 for basically standing around and grinning like an idiot.  The best part is that I’ll get my first paycheck before we leave on vacation, so I won’t have to beg for pesos like the Mexican kids selling Chiclets dad warned us about.

I’ll write more later, but right now I’m going back to sleep!
