Octransfur 2025 Part 2 (Days 9-16)

DESCRIPTION

So much for three days later... ^^; Anyhow, let's get back to the Octransfur review before moving onto new things. As before, you can see the full-resolution pics up above. This batch of pictures had a lot of callbacks to prior (or in progress!) works, so let's just get right into it~

Day 9 - Star - How do you manage to make a new picture every day for a whole month? Reuse good ideas. This is a direct callback to Day 3's cartoon scavenger hunt concept, and I do plan on coming back to this idea lots more in the future. One extra tidbit before the next day: simple character designs can often be deceptively tricky. Designs like Kirby characters are so straightforward that they can really highlight any little errors you make, so I always take extra time with them.

Day 10 - Melody - Another handy trick for getting things done in a hurry is keeping assets to hand. The sheet music I popped in the background is actually a piano arrangement of Flock Step that I made just for fun a while back. I took a picture of the first page and inverted it to turn it into a overlay for the backdrop. Much like a cooking show, you can get things done quicker if you do some of the work beforehand. Or before-wing, in this form.

Day 11 - Again - Oh hey look, another recycled idea! When you're on a time crunch, you do what you have to do. And to be honest, this is just yet another one of my favorites. We all know PMD is the furry gateway drug, after all, and I'm no exception. Fun fact: the reference I used for the eyes of the quiz-giver was the scene in The Emperor's New Groove where Kronk and Yzma are locked in Pacha's family's closet. Classic animation is a great source for super-expressive characters.

Day 12 - Haunted - You know the song and dance by this point. I'd actually played with this setting twice before this picture, including in Octransfur 2021! It just works so well for group pictures, and I wanted to do another one of those for this day. I might talk a big game about wanting to keep things simple, but my eyes are often bigger than my stomach, bzzt... >w< One bonus trick I used to keep the BG simple, at least, was drawing the windows as if they were fogged up so I didn't need to draw the outside apart from broad color strokes. You take savings where you can get 'em.

Day 13 - Accident - Papers, please. This picture was a mix of new and old ideas, including elements from a commission that I was still working on at the time! I feel like I cheated the perspective a little, but overall I'm happy with the picture as a whole, and tickled that I was able to work in the reference to one of my favorite internet skits. Add on a dash of TG for the customer's taste and a touch of bloom to give a dreamlike quality, and you've got a treat of a picture~ (TF via bureaucracy is yet another idea I'd love to come back to, some day.)

Day 14 - Stuck - I'm really going to have to turn this into a proper series (or picture book) some time. Maybe I should experiment with light novels? Whatever the word is for a novel with lots of pictures in it, that's what I'd like to do. Back on topic, for the "Incident Log" in the FA picture description, it's probably pretty clear that I was taking notes from the SCP wiki. I might've gotten badly distracted by it in the lead-up to streaming this picture... ^^;Anyhow, this was another relatively straightforward picture, with just a slight dutch angle to emphasize the emotion. This one was mostly for me, so I should probably move on.

Day 15 - Round - You can't keep recycling ideas forever-- sometimes you have to do something new! It's all a bit distant at this point, but I do remember wanting to go with the ball pit idea so that we (Sephtis and I) could include more pals in the picture without creating too much extra work for myself. If I remember right, I was starting to feel the strain at this point in the month, but it was still a fun time to make more pals round~

Day 16 - Digital - This is another fresh idea, and one that turned into an impromptu stream YCH. Naturally the theme was robo-TF in VR, and I'm really happy to have been able to show off my old robo-Mew form yet again. I'm also really happy with how the ghost-effect of the real-life headsets (and clothing) falling away turned out. One final thing I'd like to point out is one of my tricks with the timelapse music: I transitioned between an older and newer version of the GTS theme on a transition between stages of my process. I even fudged the timing a little by stretching the clips just a bit so it could happen on an orchestra hit to help hide the splice.

Once again, here's a link to the timelapse playlist if you'd like to check out the whole batch. One of these days, I'll make some complicated videos~

I'll write up the other two summaries today and schedule them to post over the next couple days so that they actually come out promptly (hopefully). And then after that, I'll try to make weekly updates on what I managed to get done, sharing pictures here before I post them elsewhere.

Maybe once we get all that put together, I'll be able to get back to doing bigger projects again, like more jigsaw puzzles or an art book. Be sure to get in touch and let me know what you all think about stuff like that!
