Before diving into the new features of this update, I'm happy to say that the app has already been downloaded more than 2,000 times! I'm so happy to see the community growing around it and getting so many positive feedbacks after working on it for such a long time.
Anyway, let's talk about the main feature of the next app update... release notifications!
Being able to let people know when their favorite anime song is finally available on streaming is something I've always seen as a goal for AniPlaylist, and today, I think I'm getting really closer to it. On social media, when a long-awaited song or albums drops, I always take the time to contact all the persons who requested it before. It's quite a long process, but the joy in people's answer is so contagious that I can't help but do it. It's even more powerful when the request was made 4 or 5 years ago!
Unfortunately, I can't do that for everyone (but I still want to do it as much as I can π), so the best way is to translate that into the AniPlaylist app. I want to make it easier for everyone to keep track of the releases of their favorite anime songs and be sure they don't miss them. Which is why I'm introducing weekly release notifications in the app, a weekly reminder that will let you know if any song from your wishlist has been released on your music streaming platform and country!
Enable notifications for the AniPlaylist app
Before receiving notifications through the app, you will need to make sure they are enabled. This is done through a new Settings menu available with the new 1.1 update. Simply head to your settings and check that the "Wishlist updates" notification is turned on.
If you had previously authorized AniPlaylist to send you notifications, this option should already be enabled.
If you have not authorized push notifications, you will get a prompt that will let you open your device's settings to give the app the right permission.
Complete your wishlist
Now that notifications are enabled, it's time to fill your wishlist with all the songs and albums that you've been missing on your streaming platform!
Use the search to find the song and albums missing in your country or platform, and simply hit the heart button to add them to your wishlist.
A song added to your wishlist will have its heart filled and a check icon:
If you can't find a specific song or album, it's probably missing from our database! Don't hesitate to contact us, we have now opened a "mobile-app" forum on our Discord server, with a pinned post where you can drop your requests for songs and albums to be added.
We will add them as soon as possible to let you complete your wishlist π
Weekly release notification
Now that you've filled your wishlist with your long-awaited songs and albums, or with songs from currently airing anime, let's get straight to the point where the release has actually happened!Once a week, we will check if any of your wishlist's songs/albums have been released, if you are lucky, you will receive this wonderful notification β¨
After receiving it, the "Notifications" tab in the app will have a red badge showing your unread notifications:
But let's focus on what's important: your newly released song(s) or album(s)!
Head back to your wishlist, now you will see the available tracks listed at the top. From there, you can simply press on it to open the song/album on your chosen platform π
Other improvements
When an audio preview can't be played, an error is now shown to the user and I'm notified, which will help me fix the dead links.
Improved country detection for various territories (for example, Martinique and Guadeloupe were not properly assigned to France)
Made various fixes on error and informative messages visibility
