Alright, so I haven't done one of these in a while. I had planned to do one a week and had wanted to do a map of Avengard (I have commissioned one) but that will still be a while. I have roughly 30 monsters described although I haven't unified them into a compendium.
With that said "some" of the fantasy monsters have made an appearance. So we can start there.
Swamp Dragons.
So swamp dragons are a domesticated beast of burden. Known for pulling carriage/wagons, often wearing finery. A particularly dangerous creature in war as the low centre of gravity requires different strategies compared to dealing with horses. A further part of the issue is the rider is quite far back on the critter so threatening the rider with something like a spear puts the spear wielder firmly in range of the jaws.
For nobles, these creatures need to be raised from egg and the eggs are highly prized and expensive. Nobility will often judge their peers by the number of these that are kept. Being strictly carnivorous means this isn't cheap. All kept swamp dragons are made sterile otherwise they would be too aggressive.
Lords may occasionally loan them out to plow fields and such as they are very powerful but this doesn't happen often.
Generally not used by standard merchants as the carnivorous diet means it is not practical. Specialist handling also makes this impossible.
While they are called swamp dragons, they are not in fact related to dragons or drakes other than being reptilian. Nobles just want to appear more important than they are.
You may notice different tail lengths. That is intentional. Ones raised for war are often left with longer tails, these are adept swimmers as well as have slightly more control/agility. The shorter tailed versions are to not get stuck under carriages.
