Let's talk about the GENEALOGY tracking / DNA Testing System again

I mentioned this in my post of the new year, but in case you missed it, let me sum this up again. This stuff has been Partially done and sitting in my to do list for now a year, which is getting pretty stressful.

 it was in one of its aspects / settings NEARLY releasable already, and has been for all this time. Due to how I've been so far unable to find time to finish it, I worked on making releasable the aspect of it that was already nearly ready as its own thing.

The M04 paternity mod update mentioned in the year-old post linked above has been in the same situation and hopefully will follow with a release soon.

So, What you ARE getting now:

automatic marking of family members: auto track and auto label for you up to great great grandparents / children, second cousins, first cousins twice removed / great grand aunts / nieces, and such. ("Choice A: all Sims automatically have their DNA in the database, and therefore, all relatives known = all relatives in existence.")

+ auto-tracking of 'marital' extended family for sims in committed relationships (not just married)

What You are NOT getting yet:

gameplay of having the sins discover their relatives through DNA testing, as opposed to auto labeling. ("Choice B: only Sims who decide to do DNA testing appear on the SimLines app and therefore only them exist in its database for other sims to find out a connection to them.")

WHY you aren't getting it yet: that system's core is mostly functional and has been for a year, BUT it does not have reactions, social interactions, etc, which are the parts that matter, so it's not ready to ship out.

HOW THE FAMILY TRACKING WORKS:

You don't need to do anything particular, just putting the files in your mods folder and launching the game, the system will do its work. For the genetic family part, it will also retroactively apply on your existing sims automatically.

It's been given good testing, but this can be fairly COMPLEX / CONVOLUTED so if you notice problems or hiccups, please report!

Based on poll results:

since responders were near unanimous: added in law ans step family members to relationship panel 'family' tab

since responders were very split on this question: added settings to block (or not) romance between step family and / or in law family (in RPO global settings)

When installing this for the first time, it will retroactively read your exiting Sims to draw up their relationships. If you have huge amounts of Sims with lots of relations to each other, when FIRST loading a particular household after installing, the retroactive assigns can make that load screen longer.

DOWNLOAD:

- remove previous version

- grab the RPO Core Library if you don't have it;

- grab the file from this post and put it directly into your mods folder or one subfolder (it's a .package file, so, not extracting!)
