Hey guys! Hope you all had a great weekend! π
Been really busy these past couple of days. For the next game update, the renders are about 70% done (7/11 dialogues), so that's very good. I'll have plenty of time for testing. Actually already found a bug during my playtests. Not a game-breaking one, more of immersion-breaking, and you most likely won't encounter it, but I'll know, so it's gotta be fixed! π
This dev update is a bit more than just a progress update for the dialogue renders. During my free time, I also worked on a couple other things. Mostly improving my skills as a 3D artist, and I thought I'd share some of that.
Ever since I started using Daz Studio, I've always kept a lot of settings at default, mostly to save time, and they were confusing as hell. I started looking deeper into the tonemapping settings (looked up some videos on YouTube), and it's actually really helped make my renders pop more.
Not just that, but I also improved my character posing skills. I looked up some tutorials, and it turns out I've been doing it wrong all these years π. The new method takes about the same amount of time as the old one to get done, but the results are waaaay better.
Before (Default settings)
After (Tweaked settings. And reposed using the new posing method)
On that note, ya, I remade some of the idle renders again lol. But it's final this time, most likely.
Cloth Simulation!
Has always been the bane of my existence in Daz Studio, and I've always tried to avoid it whenever I can. It is incredibly slow, and the results are 50/50. But a fellow developer showed me a much easer and efficient way of handling the simulations, so I'm gonna be using it a whole lot more now to do all kinds of fun stuff with clothing. But not too much, cuz it does take some time.
Learning to incorporate Blender into my workflow.
Blender is literally a superpower when it comes to 3D development. The problem is, unlike Daz Studio, it is insanely difficult to use even at a beginner level. I've been slowly learning how to import my characters into Blender, modifying them, then bringing them back into Daz Studio for rendering.
(She's a character from a game I helped another dev make last year)
The fluid is a 3D mesh I added in Blender, then brought back to Daz. It's very flexible, the process, I mean... But so is the jizz.
Here, I used Blender to manually squish the breast (It's really hard to see cuz of the lighting), which is something that's surprisingly very difficult to do in Daz Studio alone. Daz is okay for posing and setting up scenes, but absolutely terrible at modifying 3D meshes.
I also tested out some fluid brushes I got in Photoshop. I think this one looks decent. I might use it more in the future.
Oh, these are characters from the new game I'll be making next year, alongside Cabin Corpse Chapter 3 π
Well, that's all I can show for now. Gotta get back to working on the renders for 0.5.7 lol
Till next time, take care, and love y'all! π
