So, I have my computer set to rotate comics images as my background image/screen saver.As one does.Yesterday a page from GGA Issue 12 slid past my screen, and I was surprised when I read it.
Because Ronni was WRONG.Back then, she assumed that because she had betrayed Jhor’dunn that he was the one making her life miserable. Never realizing that because she had very little quid pro quo with the universe, and that forcing changes upon it rather than negotiating them was what caused her perpetual bad luck.Jhor’dunn wasn’t making her attract negative attention; that was all her own doing.As the story has been told now (in GGA #17, Giants of the Urth- kickstarter in August, stay tuned!), we know the real reasons Ronni was so unlucky, why reality spawned supervillains trying to destroy her, and a lot more about the Giant Girlieverse makes more sense.But looking back at this page, to me, it represents who Ronni was at that moment. Still avoiding the truth and running from her past, even as she began to face some realities. In this case, the reality that the hat was never going to work, unless she wanted to be called Carmen Sandiego until she died, and possibly after that as well.
While the Scholars of the Impossible book isn’t fully written (honestly I got three issues in and decided not to finish the series until I have an artist attached), I know that I had plans for Maddie Zeisler, aka Little Big Girl, to discover more about the nature of the power itself. Because she would be much more willing to exercise a give and take relationship with the universe.
Besides, Maddie never saw the power as an alter reality so much as the growth and density powers, and would have plied them accordingly. Meaning cautiously and in measured amounts.
Unlike her mentor who was, shall we say, often living in the moment.
So, while the strip is on hiatus- for which I apologize, but Ed is dealing with a lot of life upheaval at the moment and needs some time to catch up- I’ll do my best to take care of the patrons, and share some content here with you.Even if it’s a clip show episode.
