I have played many visual novel games in the past, and one problem I often run into is the constant clicking.
Sometimes I find myself clicking through a scene hundreds of times just to continue the story, and eventually I start losing interest. I think the traditional message-box style works well for simple dialogue, such as talking to an NPC who only has a few lines to say.
But when the scene becomes a full story, or almost like reading a novel, that style can become painful.
So I wanted to build something different.
I wanted a true visual novel system that can present a full story, artwork, atmosphere, and interactive choices in the best way possible.
So I built a new VN system from scratch for the game. After testing it, I honestly think it gives the best visual novel reading experience I have ever had.
The story is much easier to read. The artwork is not constantly covered or interrupted by message boxes. The scene feels more like reading an illustrated novel, with a clean layout, page turning, character icons for dialogue, full-screen CG moments, and smooth scene flow.
It also solves an important gameplay problem: players can skip scene without skipping the actual choices and rewards connected to that event.
Right now, I am spending time transferring existing story content into this new system. While doing that, I am also rewriting, editing, and polishing many scenes.Other than that there will be quite a few other new updates and features like an advanced manga/photobook reader with zoom, new scenes, new video... all in all I am excited about the coming new version.
