π¨ Ah... to be a patron of the arts!
I am a native Minnesotan and 20 year resident of Minneapolis. The cities has fostered a rich creative community; an absolutely legendary music scene (Prince, First Avenue, Morris Day and the Time, Dylan... sort of) visual artists such as LeRoy Neiman, and cartoonists and comic artists Steve Sack, C.C. Beck and Charles Schulz.
And this weekend was a festivial in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District called Art-A-Whirl. It ranged all over, but we were concentrated in a little section of private studios (above some local businesses.) It reminded me of days long ago, doing actual media with paints, inks, paper, and pencil.
It was a lot of funβ seeing the artist's workspaces, eating from food trucks and enjoying local breweries. If you're in Minneapolis at the end of May, you can't ask for a better time.
It was part of what inspired me to open up commissions again. Part of why I got into doing this type of art was to see the things I wanted to see depicted that no one else wanted to, and in a day and age where slop-peddlers can offer a quick promise of seeing your own ideas with twice as many fingers as normal, I thought it was a great time to offer them back to you all.
So, it's commission time again!
