And here is why I wanted to wait to post all three of these pages together. I wanted this reveal to (hopefully) be a bit of a surprise.
Something I've noticed about serializing the comic one page at a time is that people are often pretty good at guessing what might come next. Releasing the pages slowly sometime makes it feel like a fun plot point or a big reveal becomes less of a surprise and more of a slow-motion inevitability. I think it's more fun for everyone if I can release a batch of pages all at once that hits a big story beat rather than slowly approaching it a page at a time.
I'm sure someone has guessed that this might be where this is heading. I did foreshadow it a little bit. But I also noticed a lot of people saying things like "but everyone's so hyper sexual now, why would he want to change it back!" Well, there might be consequences! ;>
I've noticed in furry relationships you sort of get one of three options when it comes to kids. 1. Hybrids, 2. The children are entirely one parent's species or the other, or 3. cross species breeding doesn't work.
I can finally talk about this now! I thought it would be fun to play with this dynamic in the comic by having the world switch from one to the other. Specifically switching from no cross species breeding to "children are one of the parent's species". I rather like the idea of a furry society where casual sex without protection is pretty common between different species because there's no risk of pregnancy. Whereas if you want to have kids, you need to actually meet someone of your own species to reproduce.
Matching species to reproduce is how the world worked at the start of the comic. Even before everyone was hyper sexual, casual cross-species relationships wouldn't result in children. Quentin, of course, is still thinking in this way. But the reality shifts have obviously changed the way things work...
