The big reveal—they're gone!
This is a payoff for a very long setup! All the way back on page 62 when the basement lab is first shown, I wanted to make it obvious in retrospect that they were packing up the lab. But not so obvious that people would notice it on the first read through. If you look back to that page, you'll see the clues: there's a pallet on the floor and lots of cardboard boxes around. Pawel is packing a box on the floor. The orca is copying notes off the board, and the red panda is emptying out the filing cabinets. There's also a clue in the dialogue on page 61: "But we can't! Just another couple of days! I'm telling you, he knows!" The "can't" in this case is packing up the lab and moving out before they've had a chance to figure out what Quentin knows.
You'll have to let me know if this surprise was successful. Judging by the comments, I don't think there was anyone that suspected it?
Anyway, Quentin was so excited to go fuck at the party that he took off before anyone could explain to him what was going on...
