To those of you who do not know, Patreon has been talking about setting up a system where people will have to verify their age by sending them a picture of their government issued ID.
the I have been hit with an email asking for age verification. This would require me to send a government issued ID with my information to do so. Admittedly, the thought of doing so makes my skin crawl.
I have reached out to Patreon to ask them to be categorized as safe for all audiences, so I don’t have to do it. Depending on the answer I receive will determine my next course of action.
Either things will continue as normal here on Patreon, with some other sources as well for people preference.
If not, I am strongly considering just closing the Patreon and moving to SubscribeStar. While I understand some might not be comfortable or unwilling to do so. I have to think of myself under these circumstances and what I feel comfortable with. I will close the billing cycle and focus primarily on comms that I am working on, and people who have reached out to me.
While I understand this might not be ideal, to some. I do not feel comfortable with the thought of sending it to them. Once I have more information on the situation, and properly set up alternatives, I will do another post about this situation.
