MAN VS KAYAK (a rural no roads mission race against Uncle Ed's calamitous kayaking jaunt)
Introducing arguably the most entertaining ever seen on the GeoWizard Patreon page (with the possible exception of the Aldridge No Roads Lockdown Mission).
On Easter Sunday me and Ed took our race series up a notch. For Ed the comfort of the number 8 bus was to be replaced by an inflatable kayak and swift currents, and for me the familiar tarmac of my local area was to vanish from beneath my feet, making way for unfamiliar countryside. Starting in Hopwas near Tamworth (ancient capital of Mercia), we were to race each other 17 miles to the Burton Bridge Brewery in Burton upon Trent (brewing capital of the UK). The first to sip a pint there would be declared the winner. For me the threat of farmers, quarry security and railway workers promised to combine with flooded fields, forests, fences and deep irrigation ditches to make life difficult. For Ed, who had kayaked this stretch of river with me but never actually solo kayaked before, things should in theory be a lot simpler, we thought...
