Hello all!
On August 3rd, if everything goes well, The Paradox Paradox finally arrives in stores with a brand new paperback edition, and a new eBook edition to go with it. This version will be entirely self-published and should be orderable from all good book stores, online stores, libraries, etc.
The new, smaller paperback is going to sell at a RRP of £20, but I assume this price will differ remarkably between stores. At 536 pages, (I sadly had to strip out all the backer names to get the book to this length), it costs £7.53 to print a single copy and stores get the industry standard wholesale discount of... brace yourself... 55%. This means that I'll receive, after fees etc, a whopping £1.09 per physical book sold. Then again, that's £1.09 more than Unbound ever paid me so I'm not too annoyed.
The new eBook should be £5. If you bought the eBook on here previously, you can download the new one from the same store page, free of charge.
Now, these versions don't have much in the way of changes. There are a few little fixes here and there, and the contents page has been normalised as that was mostly just confusing people. The real reason I'm re-publishing it is to learn how to do this on a book that has already likely sold as many copies as it's going to. The self-publishing process is long and confusing so doing it first to a book that's already "spent" feels like a smart way to not mess up something that matters.
Also, having an eBook on Amazon gives you access to ACX, which is an audiobook creation and distribution platform that I've heard great things about. If this also goes well, I should have a professionally produced and read audiobook available by the end of the year.
Sure, there are other ways to do all of this, but the hands-off nature of all of these systems appeals to me. At the end of the day I'd rather spend my time making cool stuff than trying to maximise profits from my work.
Anyway, that's all from me. I'll update you if there are any changes or if I massively fuck it all up.
Thanks for reading!
Daniel xx
