While I don’t have a video out on YouTube today, I have just about finished this one, on the subject of Metal Tapes.
I’d been holding onto an idea of talking about a certain kind of pre-recorded Type IV tape for a few years, but it didn’t feel like enough for a standalone video. However thanks to a recent email from a nice chap called John, I now have exactly what I need for a second half to the video - so finally, here it is.
In other news, it’s been one of those weeks again. I had a tooth extracted mid week which was a most unpleasant experience. It was tooth number 6 for any dentists out there. The tooth seemed solid, the gum underneath was the issue. I feel rather beaten up and deflated about the whole thing. It’s another confirmation that my body is gradually falling apart, as though I really needed reminding. On the positive side though, I’ve now got one less filling. But yes, it’s been a week I’d sooner forget.

UPDATED: Some wanted to hear a recording made to the blanked off tape, so I added this in just before the wrap up at the end of the video and reuploaded it.
UPDATE 2: Made yet another edit - hopefully this one is slightly less useless.
UPDATE 3! - It seems there’s a strong overlap of Patrons and James Newton Howard (and Friends) fans - therefore to avoid upset I’ve shortened the section of the video where I voice opinions about the lack of enjoyment I experienced while listening to his music on this recording. I’ll have to assume he was just experiencing an off-day when he recorded this, or perhaps his Bontempi needed new Duracells. Clearly the music he recorded here is not representative of the music he recorded here.
UPDATE 4 - It turns out that pretty much everything was wrong with this video in the end. I would have been wise to have taken the week off instead. A few people have warned me that there is a particularly volatile and aggressive group that would be very upset about the suggestion of recording over their sacred lecture tapes. I really don’t need any more hassle in my life and especially not over a video that would most likely be a bit of a poor performing one anyway.
Unfortunately on YouTube it is very easy for any group to arrange a campaign of false reports against any channel to get it automatically taken down. I’ve decided therefore to just restrict this video to Patreon. Unfortunately this has meant making the YouTube version private, to prevent anyone sharing that link out to a wider audience and instead I’ve had to upload a new lower resolution, lower bitrate, re-encoded version on Patreon as that’s all this website is able to handle.
But on the bright side - as a Patron you've had another exclusive video.
I’ll need to take some days out now as I’m worn out, fed up and really flipping cheesed off. I’ll also need to publish that Traffic Light sound monitor video now just to have anything new out.
