DESCRIPTION

Hey gang! Hope you enjoyed the new video.

I’m in a bit of a predicament: last week, I got some news so exciting I want to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS… But I’m probably supposed to keep it under wraps for now.

Let’s compromise:

ᴺᴱᴮᵁᴸᴬ ᴶᵁˢᵀ ᴳᴿᴱᴱᴺᴸᴵᵀ ᴬ ᴺᴱᵂ ˢᴱᴿᴵᴱˢ ᵂᴿᴵᵀᵀᴱᴺ & ᴰᴵᴿᴱᶜᵀᴱᴰ ᴮʸ ʸᴼᵁᴿˢ ᵀᴿᵁᴸʸ

YEAH BABY!!!!!

(sorry, couldn't help myself)

We’re still a ways out from announcing the show publicly, so I’ll be light on details for now. I’ll just say that it’s About Gender, mostly in the video essay format, and has required me to watch an enormous amount of movies. Listeners of TS TV’s third season have heard me spitball some ideas for it.

I wish I could say more! I want to tell you everything about this cool, weird thing we’re cooking up – and how I plan to spend every dollar of my delicious budget – but there’s still time for the particulars to change. What I will say is that some quirks of Nebula’s original programming system will require me to shake up my upload schedule for 2026.

To explain, let me share some facts about how Nebula handles original series:

Episodes release monthly.

Creators are paid upon promoting an episode on YouTube, not upon completing it.

A full six-episode run is contingent on the performance of the first three episodes.

As you know, I typically post four big videos a year... But at that rate, it would take me nine months to promote (and get paid for) the first three episodes, by which point the newest episode would already be half a year old. That doesn’t bode well for getting the final three episodes picked up, which I really want them to be!! They’re gonna be sick!!

With that said, here’s my plan:

While the first few episodes of the series are coming out, I’ll aim to release videos every ~6 weeks. They’ll be short-ish, topical-ish, and fun, but still carefully researched. The idea is to make things with broad appeal in order to give the series, which will be on the artsy side, its best chance at success. (By the way, I’ll do my best to ensure patrons can see the series at the same time as Nebula viewers.)

“BUT LILY, AREN’T YOU WORRIED ABOUT BURNING OUT?”

Always! So instead of getting on a hamster wheel once the series drops, and huffing/puffing myself into an early grave, I’m going to start making these videos now, and simply… not post them to YouTube. This'll give me time to build up a backlog. Patrons will get them as they’re completed, but the public will have to wait until the Nebula show is ready to launch.

This plan may still change, in which case: sorry for making you read all that! But I’m feeling good about it. I’ve spent the past couple weeks writing the first episodes of the series – with the help of the inimitable Lola Sebastian – and I really feel like we’ve got something special here.

I can’t wait to share it with all of you. Hopefully sooner than later!

xoxo Lily

(PS: do any of you live in Western or Northern Europe and work in the cultural sphere? I’ll be in Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands in early August. I have a couple events planned already – announcements to come – but I’d love to do one more)
