A little bit of her history
Gwenpool appeared on a variant cover of Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2. The cover was part of a series of homages to the character Gwen Stacy, with variants in which the character was represented as the title hero. There are other versions of these covers with Gwen being Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America and even Groot. One cover in particular, created by artist Chris Baccalo, featured the character as an alternate version of Gwen in which she was Deadpool. Or Gwenpool. The cover was very successful, inspiring cosplays and fanart, and then Marvel decided to capitalize on this and create a new character.
