DESCRIPTION

Just wanted to share these sketches and their time lapse videos.

The first sketch is sort of based on an idea for a roguelite game that I've been thinking about for a while. It would be a game where you collect valuable items, and after each run return those valuables to your demon mistress to impress her and get rewarded. I like roguelites a lot so it would have been a fun game to make. Still just toying with ideas like that though. If you look at the video or PSD file for this one you'll see I tried to separate each part of the picture into its own layer of local colors, with a separate lighting layer clipped onto each of those local color layers. There are benefits to that, where I can be a bit more quick and carefree with my brush strokes since the clipping mask ensures the strokes stick within their intended area. But oh man, it's been another strong reminder of my distaste for layer management lol.

So, for the second sketch there you see me stick to doing everything on a few layers instead. It does mean I spend more time cleaning edges, but it also saves time I would have spent managing layers, and it's ultimately more comfortable to me to sketch this way. I do think there are likely contexts where separating things into multiple layers makes sense though, depending on what's being painted.

I hope you guys like the sketches. :)
