The ward unraveled. Slowly at first, the edges of it glowing white hot for a moment before the flames sputtered to life in a shower of sparks where upon, almost instantly, the paper crumbled together into a blackened ball. Smoke billowed from it, and the creature's foot moved across the threshold.Momiji lowered her hand, her arts the reason for the ward's undoing, and turned towards the nearby, stacked chairs. More wards dotted the landscape, plastered across walls and hung over alcoves and in doorways, maintaining the distance of the creature she had just invited inside. It was a necessary action, something she had learned over her years as a Shrine Maiden, acting as a kind of pressure valve for the collective frustration of the creatures. She'd observe them nightly, stalking along the outskirts of the invisible barrier that would sting them if they ventured too close, and had realized quickly that if too many of them gathered at once, there was the chance that their muscular, massive forms would all assail it at once.So she handled a few of them at a time."Come here..."As if on cue, another turned the corner as well, sensing the sudden vulnerability in the warding.
