Danny was convinced that his final hour had come. The Lykaon’s muzzle was now only a few centimeters from his face; he could feel each of the beast’s hot, moist exhalations against his skin. His heart was pounding so hard in his chest that he felt like it was going to explode. Powerless, Danny closed his eyes, waiting for the killing blow… But nothing came. Instead, a wide, viscous tongue slid slowly across his cheek, like an affectionate caress, which made Danny’s eyes snap open abruptly. The Lykaon was staring fixedly at him with irises shining like braziers consuming everything they touched. Suddenly another lick followed, longer, firmer, almost erasing the fear that tightened the human’s features. « Wh… what? » Danny murmured.
