-VB-

[Welcome to the Chaos Gacha, our newest player! This is the Chaos Gacha, and we want you to be our agent! Your job is simple. Cause chaos. Small, large, short term, long term, the how doesn’t matter! [As your starting perk, you have been given 3 Gold Tickets]

“... What the fuck?” I muttered as I stared at the floating screen in front of me.

[Please think {Roll}.]

I looked around me.

I wasn’t in front of my computer or at home. One moment, I had blinked and now I was standing in the sands of a shore next to a body of water extending to and beyond the horizon. I took a deep breath in and smelled salt.

Salt, but the air only got this salty when it was near a shore.

Back home, I was nowhere near the shore. I was as far from a shore as someone could get. There wasn’t even a salt mine near me.

And I was standing in cold sand.

I hate standing in cold sand.

At least I was dressed and not naked.

I couldn’t be dreaming, though. Everything was … too vivid. Too real.

The grittiness of the sand between my toes irked me a lot.

I took a deep breath in and let it out.

‘Be grateful I’m not naked,’ I chanted in my head. ‘Be grateful I’m not in a hospital. Be grateful I’m not in an EDM night club. Be grateful I am not stuck in having to mediate problems between the in-laws.’

I breathed out slowly.

Okay. Let’s go along with … this thing in front of me.

‘Roll.’

Brrrrriinnngggg….

I could mentally see and hear a wheel rolling like this was a slot machine.

And then it came to a stop.

Ding ding ding!

[Tinker - Highfleet]

Rare Ability

This Tinker specialisation allows you to build, design, modify and create technology and technology related to dieselpunk metal airships. This specialization allows you to design absurdly efficient engines and thrusters to keep fuel costs down, and fly across the skies with as much firepower as a true blue battleship!

I stared at the new window.

And then I got a headache. I stood there in the sand, and allowed myself to be subjected to the double wombo combo of gritty sand between my toes and a brief but infuriatingly sharp headache that came out of nowhere.

The moment the headache disappeared only a few moments later, I suddenly found my brain packed to the brim with ideas, blueprints, and concepts.

Okay.

I guessed that … I struck gold(heh) with some kind of a cosmic lottery I never entered.

Cool.

‘Roll.’

The “Chaos Gacha” slot machine spun up again.

Ding ding ding!

[Factory Core]

Elite Familiar

"Time to industrialise" A modified golem core that instead builds itself into a factory by assimilating resources into itself. The more information about mechanics and technology the user feeds into it, the more assembly lines it can produce to create more items. The growing speed and maximum size of the Factory depend on the user's abilities.

I blinked.

Now, there was this metal ball of machines, wires, and something else that sat in the back of my mind, waiting for me to call it up. I knew what it did.

I chuckled.

“The Factory Must Grow,” I muttered to myself, amused.

‘Roll.’

[Void Tendril]

Rare Ability

Allows you to conjure and control tendrils woven from void, these tendrils can grapple, crush, whip and pierce to your desires. You can also share sensations with the tentacles.

Okay, that was something I could use personally.

“... I forgot to ask. Where am I?” I asked, hoping that this Chaos Gacha - an ominous name - would respond.

[You are in the world of Maia II in the Maia System within the Pleiadas Cluster in the Federated Suns, which is in the “galactic southeast” of Terra in relation to the galactic core. The current year is 2990.]

I stared at the message.

“Battletech,” I said outright. “You dropped me into Battletech.”

[You have missions available for you to take for guaranteed ticket rewards. Missions are completed automatically, even if you fulfill the requirements for only a nanosecond. Please think of ‘missions’ to access the mission board.]

‘Missions.’

[Chaos Gacha Mission Board - Battletech Locale (Showing available only)]

Start the Factory - Bronze Ticket

Get a Light Mech - Bronze Ticket

Get a Medium Mech - Bronze Ticket

Get a Heavy Mech - Silver Ticket

Get an Assault Mech - Silver Ticket

Defeat a Pirate Raid - Silver Ticket

Become a Mechwarrior - Silver Ticket

Find and destroy a pirate base - Silver Ticket

Use your first Tinker to build a Dropship - Silver Ticket

Get a Noble Title - Gold Ticket

I blinked. That was a lot of missions available to me.

“... Factory Core?” I muttered out loud and blopb. Fhsink. A black box as big as my torso appeared and dropped into the cold, wet sand.

I blinked.

Nothing happened.

With a sigh, I reached down and pulled it up. I grunted as I lifted with my knees (not my back like a scrub) and groaned when I fully stood up. “You’re a heavy boy, aren’t you?” I hissed out as I turned away from the ocean and made my way inland.

But I kept sinking into the sand with each step I took because of the sand.

It took me a while but I eventually made my way off of the sandy beach and onto proper land. I looked around as I walked. ‘Considering the mix of palm trees, broadleaf trees, even a few pine trees, and the warm air, I might be in the subtropics,’ I thought to myself. The most familiar comparisons I could make for subtropics on this alien world was Ryuku and Florida.

Yeah, that sounded about right.

I blinked as I cleared the forests that surrounded the beach and found myself in a large plain, and saw a huge mountain.

“... Good as any place I could find,” I muttered.

I set up the Factory Core on solid rocky soil, and even before I said “go,” it expanded out.

Explosively.

I groaned from where I’d fallen and looked around.

The chest-sized black box had expanded out, and now, there was a torso-circumference-ish black tower in the middle of a flat, circular black surface.

Oh, that was a computer terminal.

… Right, I’m supposed to input things I know so that the Factory could use them, too.

So I walked up to the terminal and started putting everything I knew so far about machines and shit, most of which came from Tinker: Highfleet.

Ping! Ping!

I blinked and looked up. Oh, right. I set up the factory. That should be a ticket. But why did I get two notifications?

Mission Complete - Start the Factory - Bronze Ticket

Achievement: Make enemies with a Planetary Noble - Silver Ticket

-You set up a factory without permission on his private beach, and the Factory cannot be relocated.

My jaws dropped.

Wait, what? What do you mean enemy

Then my face drained. I could feel it happening.

Oh.

Oh, I forgot I was in Battletech.

You know, the setting where a single noble can own entire planets? Entire systems? Be in charge of hundreds of worlds?

And I was in the most noble of the Inner Sphere houses, the one that took the neo-feudalism to the extreme: the Federated Suns.

I grimaced.

Shit.

“Wait, you seriously can’t leave? Go back to your box thing?!” I hissed as I looked around the Factory Core.

It gave me no response.

I looked through its terminal. There was no option for me to turn it back to a Factory Core (mobile).

Shittttt.

I grimaced.

Then … Then I would just have to come clean, right?

Then I paused.

Right. I still had that Bronze Ticket. Maybe it’ll give me something I could use to convince whoever was in charge? Maybe sell something?

“Roll,” I said out loud.

[Exoskeleton]

Rare Ability

Allows you to grow a very sturdy exoskeleton armour over your body to give you enhanced endurance and powerful protective armour. The power and durability of the Exoskeleton scales with your physical stats.

Nope. I mean, a very good roll for a Bronze Ticket, but not what I needed right now.

I groaned. “This was going to be…”

Then I paused again.

Wait, wait, wait.

Dropships were supposed to be expensive, right? What if I made a dropship using Highfleet Tinker and sold the dropship to the noble who owned the beach? Then I would be within my right to have my factory and I wouldn’t be in trouble! I would just say something like “Oh, I wanted a beach resort!” and shit like that!

Ping!

I looked back up.

Oh, when did I crouch down? Probably somewhere in the midst of spiraling down?

Achievement: Make a plausible plan to get out of your unenviable situation without resorting to violence. - Silver Ticket

-Most Gacha Rollers go straight to violence or run away, even if it means leaving their familiar behind. So kudos to you!

I blinked.

Huh.

“You mean I could’ve run?” I asked out loud incredulously. “Leave behind my only familiar? That sounds shitty.”

No answer.

I ground my teeth. Fine, Roll!

[Giant Ominous Floating Obsidian Sphere]

Elite Item

A gigantic ball of pure obsidian that always floats 100 meters above the ground, its radius is 5km wide and it constantly emits a pitch humming sound that can be heard from over 50km in distance. That's all.

I stared at the message.

I stared at the message.

“No no no n-.”

Blopb.

And then there was a giant shadow on top of me.

I looked up.

And I saw a giant fuck off sphere.

Noooooo…..” I moaned out in despair.

Anonymity? The Chaos Gacha never heard the word.
