Who Da Boss Lady?

Chapter 37

-VB-

Rias grimaced as she dodged another light spear.

She knew it! This was a den of e-! This was a rogue exorcist den!

Except she now realized that there was a problem.

There were a lot more of them than she thought. She thought that there would have been a dozen tops!

But noooo… There were like fifty of them! And with them were at least four Fallen Angels that were slinging light spears at her and her peerage.

The problem here was that they couldn’t afford to land to fight. Akeno and she were already slinging as many spells as they could, but Kiba and Shirone were having a hard time landing to use their physical advantage.

And she knew why.

They didn’t train to use their devil wings with their Knight- and Rook-boosted speed and physical strength. Because she didn’t train them. Because she never thought it would be something that would be relevant!

So they were up in the air, constantly dodging bullets and light spears, and because there were so many of them and they couldn’t get down to the ground without getting hit a lot.

“Kiba, get to the edge and get down from there!” she ordered loudly as she dodged another light spear. She glared down at one of the Fallen below and prepared her own blast of power.

But then something prickled her senses.

Like something horrible and dreadful was about to happen close to her. The hairs on her left arm prickled but her right arm didn’t.

Her eyes widened as that prickling feeling escalated. Drastically.

Even though it was a bad move, she whipped her head around to see.

And she saw it.

A shining ray of light.

So powerful.

Massive.

Was … was that another Fallen?

Shit. Shit shit shit shit -!

“AKENO!” she nearly shrieked.

“I see it!” her Queen shouted back and tried to form some sort of a shield -.

Then beam.

It … didn’t go for them.

Instead, the light struck the ground where the Fallen and their exorcists were.

She watched, stiff and confused.

Was … an angel helping her?

“Oh, I remember now.”

She turned to Shirone. Her Rook also looked as tired as she felt, probably from the impromptu and intense fifteen minutes of flying they have ever done.

“Shirone?” she asked, a little harried and breathless. “What do you remember?”

“There’s someone in our city who’s not part of Heaven or the Grigori who can use light magic, though it isn’t holy at all.”

“There is?!”

“Yeah. Mari.”

Rias paused.

Mari.

That Mari?

‘I mean… I know that the girl can give Sera-nee some intense sparring, but this is something else entirely!’ Rias thought as she looked back down as the beam dissipated.

Almost all of the exorcists were down and out for the count, no longer shooting their guns and spells. The Fallen were… they didn’t look good, which was good for her!

“Now!” she shouted as she dove down, and her peerage followed after her.

The Fallen looked up and saw them, and immediately tried to throw light spears again.

But this time, Shirone and Kiba were on the ground. They pulled their wings back in and blitzed toward them.

Instead of throwing, the Fallen and the few exorcists still standing focused on the speedy and tough duo. As light spears and demonic swords clashed and gauntleted fists cracked rogue exorcists’ jaws, Rias also landed while Akeno provided aerial dominance.

Whenever any of the Fallen tried to fly up, she blasted them with lightning.

Rias concentrated her Powers of Destruction and aimed at the Fallen who looked like the strongest among them.

And just as Kiba disengaged with a dodge and a roll from the Fallen, she fired.

The Fallen saw it coming toward her from the corner of her eyes …

And ducked. Rolled.

It was an impossible flexibility for a mortal human and even low-class Devil, but this was a Fallen that’s probably been alive for centuries. With that kind of lifespan, even a century of combat training produced results like this.

But something else happened.

There was a zap, and Mari-chan was suddenly hovering in the air above them all. Flying just a bit higher than Akeno.

And she was in that magical girl outfit.

“Everyone will cease fighting!” she demanded. “Or I will enforce the peace of my choice!”

Rias gawked at the girl.

What?!

“This is the official Second Owner business, Mari!”

“I am not Mari while on duty, Rias-senpai. I am Magical Girl Clarinette the Envious!” Mari-chan coldly responded. “And I don’t care about the Second Owner or Devils fighting the Church or the Fallen! All I care about is that you are all fighting in my backyard, and I will not accept that!”

“Mari-chan, I don’t think this is the time -!” Shirone shouted from where she was fighting a Fallen.

Mari-chan pulled out her wand.

Then she pointed it up.

Gravity!”

And everyone collapsed.

Rias smashed into the ground and she yelped. When she tried to get up, just lifting up her arms even with magic boosting them, was too difficulty. Then she looked around and saw that everyone, including the Fallens, were in the same position as her. Worse, they had their wings out, and trying to lift their wings looked even harder than lifting their arms.

“You all keep fighting and fighting! Violence and violence! Constantly flaunting your strength and making life for everyone worse! Well, guess what?! I’m the fucking strongest bitch in town and what I say goes!”

She hovered down, and Rias looked up. Mari had Akeno in her arms and set her down lightly. Her white magical girl outfit fluttered lightly. “Am I going to have Final Spark someone or are you all going to sit tight while I call the authorities?”

“Who do you think you -?!” the lead Fallen shrieked.

But Mari-chan pointed her wand.

And there was a burst of that same light that gave her peerage the initial opening.

The light was blinding up close.

And the Fallen’s shrieking voice cut off with a brief scream. When the light cut out, Rias saw the Fallen still there, just lightly toasted all over.

“The Final Spark burns magic and spiritual particles. It’s an anti-magic spell,” Mari snapped. “Sit and shut up unless you want to burn, because I found out I can heal that, so I’m not above repeated burning.”

That got the Fallen to stop resisting.

Mari grunted like an old man as she fished out her phone and dialed her phone.

After a moment, someone picked up.

Instantly, Mari-chan’s whole demeanor changed.

“Levi-tan! I caught some naughty devils and fallen fighting in my backyard, and I had to defeat them! Can you come pick them up?”

Oh, this bitch
