I want to thank everyone who has been supporting me over the past year and a half or so. As you may know I took about an 18-month hiatus from comics. What you don’t know is the catalyst for my return was because my husband was hit by a car and left unable to work for a while. I had already been planning on posting comics again and developed a small backlog of content, but this incident moved my timeline forward.
Since then, my husband has undergone surgery, different procedures and rehab. All of which have required significant amounts time off work and expense on our part. I won’t be going into too much detail but for transparency I will let you know there is an insurance claim progressing in the background – but we are still a while away from that being over as the insurance company have up to 3 years after the incident to finalise the claim.
This has been an incredibly stressful time for me, while I have also had to deal with my own health issues that required time off work over 2025 and caring for my mother after her accident in January. I don’t know how we would’ve stayed afloat without the extra income from my Patrons!
That said, Patreon has always felt like a catch 22 for me. I will always appreciate the support and motivation I’ve received from my patrons, and I don’t want to come across as negative about the experience at all. However, I always feel immense pressure to justify the monthly expense to you, especially in today’s economic climate. I don’t feel as though I’m doing enough, I am too slow at drawing and busy with outside commitments (including full-time work again) to fully throw myself into comics. Posting even twice a week consistently is difficult for me.
I’ve made the decision to close my Patreon to relieve myself of the pressure. I will still make comics when I like, but I am excited to have a bit more freedom to explore other styles and mediums. I will also be free from caring about “the algorithm” and posting across platforms that I don’t like using.
The plan:
Weekly comics until the end of June
Billing will pause for the month of July – Patreon content will remain accessible, however no new content will be posted
My Patreon page will be unpublished in August – Patreon content will no longer be available
I understand this is probably disappointing but I’m truly burnt out.
