I just got a notification that Apple is forcing Patreon to make all creators use subscription billing by November this year. This was an issue last year but Apple changed their minds and now they've changed it again!
The subscription system is a nightmare to run with the token system, since supporters are billed whenever they signed up every month, not on a set date. This means I'd have to constantly check the supporter list to see who is eligible for tokens.I also run a "per creation" system mainly because I never know how active, if at all, I will be that month. I'm probably going to have to increase tier prices to make up for the months I make more than one drawing, so that I don't lose out, since you'll only be charged once. Unfortunately when I do make just one drawing you'll still be charged the new price, which is awful. If I draw nothing that month, you will still be charged which is what I really don't want. I can put the page on hiatus but it could be too late for some users so it doesn't really work.I had a system that I was going to implement on my other account for when the switch happened, I'll work from that. The difference there is that new drawings were automatically sent out to people, which is something I can't do here because some new drawings don't have rewards due to their nature. The token system will probably have to be reworked to reset the 1st of every month, regardless as to when you signed up. That way I won't lose my mind trying to keep track of everybody's sign up date. I really can't do anything about inactivity however.Anyways, I'll try to delay the change as much as possible. We'll see if anything changes from Apple's side before then. So to be clear, nothing is changing right now.If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. You can also always ask for my Discord so we can talk there.Thank you for your support as always!
