A quick comic sketch to expand on their stories a bit more. (I was working on fully fleshed backstory posts, but I haven't felt like finishing them.)
Daniela is pretty simple to read, especially for Brook, and she herself is not that emotionally intelligent so it's life changing to have someone that bothers to analyse her at all. Daniela has spoken about her family to Brook multiple times before. She never considered it as abuse, but her mom, dad and older brother had an interesting way of teasing and being playful. A way that consists of bullying and physical harm as the punch of the joke. They are pretty close minded and hateful towards minority groups, which is why Daniela was so horrified to admit she liked Brook at first. Daniela moved out as soon a possible and kinda went no-contact out of anxiety of talking to them.
Brook had a much more pleasant family, although not perfect. She was allowed to be curious and analytical without being shamed for making mistakes. Thanks to that she knew how to handle Daniela and her fragile ego when it came to making mistakes. Brook has also had a group of very close friends she got to take care of growing up, so she knows what to say.
Neither of them are perfect, and they won't be for a long time, but they're a team and they they're here for the long run.
