Ayumu's plan is really messy, but it makes total sense in his head (and there alone). To him, "not revealing Izumi is gay" is a good deal for putting up with being punched and held hostage, because in his head, being gay is something you would definitely want to hide no matter what. Also in his head, he considers himself not a homophobe because he says things like "I'm totally okay with it!" even though then he proceeds to explain how a man is not a real man if he's gay. There are people like that in this world, sadly.
