The setting of Dark Souls is full of despair, the aftermath of a ruined world. Seeing Gwynevere is the only time we see a feeling of tranquility, but only what once was or could've been. Making Lordran a more sad world to be in.
I'm no lore-nut, I only got into Dark Souls because of the challenge and never dug deeply into the lore. But as time went by, the more curious I got and made me love Dark Souls even more. Dark Souls is a strange game to me, it's a game I don't know how to express in a few words.
