Otter Commission
DESCRIPTION

I finally finished up this commission, and I think it turned out really good. Nice shading, little hints of fur, decent clothing folds and such. And I got to practice a lot of different techniques in order to depict glass and lacquered wood, for instance. I pulled out all the bells and whistles. This was done for a friend of mine, and I had the honor of doing the very first depiction of this character. As good as the character turned out, I'm also very proud of the background. Those cumulonimbus clouds... I managed to do this thing I'm -always- chasing in art, which is to depict something with only a few brush strokes that captures the feeling of something with more detail. I have always had issues with being too focused on fine details, and I can never see the forest for the trees... quite literally. I tend to draw every goddamn tree instead of just suggesting them en masse... and the few times I've attempted to do so, it usually turns into a blurry mess that fails to capture -any- detail. A perfect example can be found if we compare this drawing to another beach scene I did in 2021. There's just a lack of definition in the '21 piece, and I really feel I've come a long way.Btw, this is the same art piece I was working on in today's art stream, so if you're curious as to how the otter was shaded, feel free to check it out ^^***PS. There's an easter egg in this drawing. I added it just for my own amusement. You're never going to find it, and I'm telling you just to be a tease (though you're welcome to try).
