It’s a bit late, but since this year is the Year of the Snake, I’d like to introduce you to a snake-themed Youkai here.
Let’s dive into the fascinating world of African Youkai! Africa is teeming with snake-like Youkai, mythical beasts, and legendary creatures, not to mention a plethora of Cryptids.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to a particularly auspicious and benevolent snake: Masingi from South Africa!
Masingi is a legendary healer told of in the traditions of the Tsonga people of South Africa. He takes the form of a giant snake and resides in a beautiful, clean underground home. Masingi has the power to heal sickness and can be summoned through song.
One day, the head of the Maringana family fell gravely ill, and his five sons sought help from Masingi. However, the eldest four sons were terrified by the sight of Masingi and fled.
But the youngest son, Xikhibana, overcame his fear, sang to Masingi, and successfully brought the great serpent home. Masingi healed their father, received the gratitude of the villagers, and entrusted Xikhibana with medicinal herbs. This story has been passed down as a cherished legend.

In the original legend, Masingi is portrayed as a masculine figure, but wouldn’t it be fun to reimagine this character as a cute girl? She could be the daughter of the great healer, perhaps!
Imagine Masingi, a girl who loves songs, discovering the voices of Shinka and Sagiri online and traveling all the way to Japan to hear their live performances! Of course, she also loves protecting the health of humans. And if a human shows no fear of her serpent form, she might develop quite the soft spot for them…

ここではボーナスコンテンツとして、Rebisの非エロ漫画『あにめたまえ！天声の巫女』のコンテンツも時々お送りしております。遅くなりましたが、今年は巳年…というわけで、蛇系の妖怪をご紹介いたしますね。
今回もアフリカ妖怪でいきましょう！ アフリカには蛇系の妖怪や妖獣、神話的存在やUMAがいっぱいいます。
その中から、縁起が良さそうな良い蛇さんをご紹介！ 南アフリカのマシンギです。
マシンギは南アフリカのツォンガ人に伝わる伝説の癒し手で、美しく清潔な穴に住む大蛇の姿をしています。病を癒す力を持ち、歌を通じて呼び出される存在です。
ある日、マリンガナ家の家長が重病となり、5人の息子が助けを求めましたが、長男から4番目の息子はマシンギの姿に恐れをなし逃げ帰りました。
しかし末っ子のシキバナは恐れを克服し、歌い続けてマシンギを家に連れ戻し、父を癒しました。
マシンギは村人たちから感謝を受け、シキバナには薬草を託し、伝説として語り継がれた…とされています。

元の伝説では男性っぽい存在ですが、やっぱり美少女化したいですよね。偉大な癒やし手の娘なのかもしれません！
歌が大好きなマシンギは、ネットごしに聞いた心火と早斬の生歌を求めて、日本までやってきちゃう…のかも？
もちろん人間さんの健康を守ってあげるのも大好き。自分の蛇体な姿を恐れない人間のことは、とっても好きになっちゃうかも…！
