When I started creating a new location, I ran into some technical limitations. Early in the development process, I chose a less-than-ideal approach to creating locations. I used my own coordinate grid and custom coordinates. For example, AA00 was the starting point in the Village Wall location. Offsets to the left and right were based on the coordinates AL01 and AR01. As these values increased in the game world, locations were created to the left and right. The path forward was BB00, CC00, and so on, until I ran into the problem that the coordinates in the Desert location became very inconvenient. Then, in the Jungle, I struggled to create the location, and in The Castle, I realized that the existing system for generating locations was unsuitable for further expansion. It was very convenient in the early stages of game development, but bugs, distorted coordinates in remote locations, and the complexity of multi-level locations forced me to redo everything. I spent several weeks adding features such as:

The classic almost infinite coordinate system, with (0,0) at the center and extending in all directions

Multi-levels: caves and different floors, such as those in The Castle, are now located on separate layers and no longer overlap, thereby avoiding errors

I was able to fill in the missing areas in the locations on all sides. Now the locations no longer look like they have holes in them

The levels are created from a single image and a single obstacle file. This improves performance and gives a more seamless look

Smooth transitions between zones. Now it’s truly smooth, as if you’re moving through the world rather than teleporting via a fade (though that option is still available in the settings)

New navigation map. Whole locations make it easy to use them in navigation maps, and I've added a new filter display

A new system for saving game world states. Issues with locked doors, uncompleted quests, and missing quest items have now been fully resolved. The new state system completely eliminates errors (though some may occur during the transition period)

Upcoming features: In the new system, I can now navigate directly to any location on the map. For example, you select a point on the map, and the game calculates a route from your character’s current position straight to that point
