It’s helping me a lot to take a break from the constant production treadmill and focus on crafting the next season of Philosophy Tube with more intentionality. I’m super inspired and working on lots of ideas with a few scripts already drafted.
One back-end strategy I’m working on is what I call the Double Bubble. YouTube has these bubbles of viewship, right? Like there’s Educational YouTube, Gaming YouTube, Reviews (breaking down into Gadgets, Beauty, etc), Celebrity YouTube, Challenge YouTube, Lifestyle Vlogs, etc. The most successful videos break out and reach new audiences because they hit more than one bubble. Right now Philosophy Tube has Educational on lock, the show gets great viewership there. But what’s been missing lately is the penetration to other bubbles.
So part of my strategy for the next season is crafting videos that can break into 2 or more bubbles. Like I’m working on one about AI that also intersects with tech reviews; one about feminism that also intersects with a big movie franchise; one on virtue ethics that centres around a video game; one on Hollywood and how movies actually get financed (that needs a second bubble but I think I’m close). It’s a challenge but I’m enjoying it!
I thought you’d appreciate a little insight into how things are shaping up. There’s LOTS more work to do yet but this feels like a fruitful strategy.
