As promised, I said I might take you through some of the work done for my Wizard of Oz animated show pitch. Well, here are some of the designs we were working on by the time the show got canned for a second time. There's lots I would still change but this is generally the vibe we had.
These designs were by Dani Diez, who you should totally look up and follow. An absolute god-tier designer.
This was from when the show was aiming to be CGI with a painterly vibe.
For those not sure, the "boy" at the end there is Tip. Our plan for Season 1 was to merge the stories of the first two Oz books, with the story of book 2 being a b-plot to Dorothy heading to see the Wizard. Tip is in fact the deadname and boy-version of Princess Ozma! One of the first positive portrayals of a trans character, Ozma becomes a girl and Dorothy's best friend and ruler of Oz, for the remainder of the series. Pretty cool for a book from 1901.
That aspect is the part I'm saddest about not getting to do. It's never properly been adapted and I was certain we could've done it justice.
There are plenty more designs and art to come, but this is just a taster!
