DESCRIPTION

Narrated by Sir Tony Robinson, Time Team’s John Gater revisits the spectacular remains of a neolithic ceremonial centre of epic proportions at the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney, for the final 2 weeks of 20 years of excavations.

The discovery was in part down to John when he undertook a geophysical survey in 2002 at the Ness of Brodgar which revealed a huge complex of monumental Neolithic buildings from the centuries around 3000BC.

Site Directors Nick Card, Prof Mark Edmonds and Anne Mitchell take John on an emotional journey through the two decades of work and he witnesses some extraordinary finds which are unearthed in the final moments of the dig.

John decides to finish the way he started and undertakes a new survey with SUMO GeoSurveys and GuidelineGeo, with extraordinary results.

Without parallel in Atlantic Europe, the site’s three hectares are filled with huge stone structures containing spectacular finds.

These made the Ness one of the most important archaeological sites in the world today, changing our understanding of Neolithic Orkney and shining a new light on the prehistory of northern Europe.
