This knitted legend goes on every dig with us - because no Time Team site is complete without him.
Mick Aston was at the heart of Time Team. The stripy jumpers, the wild hair, the pure joy of finding something and being able to explain why it mattered - that was all him. He fought for the archaeology to always come first, and he made millions fall in love with digging up the past.
His origins (the knitted version!) came about when a wonderful lady, who wishes to stay anonymous, gifted him to Time Team. She also made several other models, including John pushing Mick in a wheelbarrow, and John pushing GPR kit.
So far on this current dig, he's travelled to Orkney, contemplated a swim, and stolen the best bunk on the ferry ride over!
So if you spot him peeking out of a trench this season, let us know!
He's still on every dig. Always will be.
