Wholeeeee lot of pencils this week!
Let's start with the page!
So I think I'm learning that I gotta avoid drawing the back of Nick's head. I really can't seem to get the anatomy down, or at least... it always feels like hard mode to me. Face forward, he can be tricky (his shiloette and cheeks are very squash-and-stretch), but I know the lay-of-the land at this point. But the back of his head? Might as well be a different country. Drawing Owen speaking into his ear felt so frigging difficult, and even now I'm not confident that my pencil lines are setting me up for success... Ah well... it's a problem for next weeks, Ama. Gotta keep moving forward, even if it's not perfect.
Stuff I liked: the crawl and the butt grab! Both feel like so much fun to me. I also love the idea of Judy having a bit of shadow on her as she crawls forward - to make it look like she's crawling in under the panel, sort of? It just feels like a fun pose I don't usually try. And Owens grab just feels... HUNGRY to me. I love it.
I'm not sure how the hole-press is gonna look at the end, but I'll just try to be confident that it'll look good when colored.
The final panel caused me a bit of last-minute stress when I realized it was SO similar to a previous Owen-POV image I drew for Page 17 (Single Panel). I try to be pretty transparent about being a needs-reference-art for poses/layout/problem-solving, kind of artist, and I guess that pose in my inspiration folder just... seduced me for the second time. Or maybe I just weak for Judy staring straght down-camera. I don't think the images are exactly the same, but I also felt like the eye was being too powerful a focal point on the comics page... I wanted the kneeling Judy to command the page, so it was enough for me to try to draw it again. On my third redraw, I turned it into a different-pose ball-licking-motion - that feels pretty story-forward and fun, and lets me crop out her eyes a bit, to avoid the focal point.
It means too that I've got three different penciled illustrations that I think are all super hot =D So I might try to finish all three, if I have time!?
FINALLY - A week or two ago, I attended Furlandia! Attending was a bit of a big deal for me, as you all know, I try to stay pretty private! But I couldn't say no to finally getting to hang out with a few select friends. Even had a fun moment at a room party, that I then tried to draw up (drawn and shared with permissions ofc) <3 Cameo attributions: Beeef14 (Rabbit), Rudy (Standing Fox), Ama (Lying Fox), and Ansel (Mouse)!
