“We should do that again,” they say, the words slipping from their mouth before they can think them through.

They’re sincere, but they’re immediately suffocated by doubts. Perhaps [Oracle] doesn’t want that. Az should have asked them carefully before proposing anything, but [Oracle] pushes Az into honesty better than anyone else ever has.

Az is used to the conversations that hide the truth behind layers of lies and nonsense—to the conversations that feel more like a chess game. It’s more comfortable. Convenient, too. No need to open their heart too much. It’s too dangerous, but thankfully, others rarely expect that much from them.

Az suspects that [Oracle] wouldn’t allow them to give anything less than honesty, even if it were painful.
