BobCustoms have done it again with another killer classic comic design! And L1N6… well they sure did print it!
What a great concept for a pair of figs! For one thing, a classic 70s-80s style Ultron is a must-have for any collector! But the choice to turn it into a two-pack with a battle-damaged version of a hero is a great idea!
Of course naturally it makes me wish the Bob & Ling team would’ve also done a full release of the “not-battle-damaged” version of the Ant-Man fig seen here... (limited to I want to say something like five total?)
Oh well... I’m sure another classic Hank Pym Ant-Man will come along one day… I hope… 🥺
Even still, I’d love to see some more battle damaged versions of heroes to add to the collection! So this is still a win in my book!
The figs we have here are pretty great!
The silver application on Ultron is (surprisingly) really nice! It’s a sudo gunmetal shade of silver that may or may not jive with you depending on how hardcore of an Ultron fan you are. For me it’s shininess is great, but he’s a bit too dark perhaps. Almost more of a modern colorist’s take on the character instead of the classic chrome dome traditional silver robot color.
I like L1N6’s production work here (shocking of me to say knowing some of their recent releases)! But yeah… I woulda liked it if they lightened him up a bit.
On the other side of the two-pack, Ant-Man is another really solid fig!
The design work is top notch! Not overly complicated, not overtly mature with the damage like our last battle damaged fig we looked at...
It does suffer from #IncompleteLegs however so... two steps forward, one step back...
That helmet overall is some of the best 3D design work for an Ant-Man helmet to date! The spacing of the eyes isn’t too funky. The chinstrap doubling as the rebreather ant-translated thing is well sized. The shaping around the back looks good too. And the silver is bright and shiny!
I also can’t help but wonder if the broken antenna is a bit of an unintentional reference to Bob’s Stilt-Man, famous for the antenna's breaking, and cursed with production errors...
All in all though, the helmet we got here is far sturdier! Plus we really dodged a bullet with the upgraded design compared to the initial concept that can still be seen on the collectors card/tile. It was not good!
Other than that, Ultron had no additional print to be seen on the head other than some solid red. They coulda given us some Kirby Krackle at the very least, but no, just red...
Oh and here's the insides of the custom parts! I found it interesting that the shoulder armor's neck socket wasn't centered. I can't help but wonder it was the same across all copies, or just mine having a production error...
I’m not sure what took me so long to take a look at these two! They’ve been on my desk for almost a year now! It was about time I took a good peak at them! $140 for the pair (or $70 ea) from back in May 2024. Good prices then, and still now (although I hear the market value has gone up a bit for them both, so what do I know!)
And of course I can’t help but conclude this review with an eye rolling pun… good things DO come in small packages!
